An option to register for a Smart-ID Basic account with a bank link will be closed. All other methods of creating a Smart-ID account remain available as previously.
In the near future, registering for a Smart-ID account will be available only via an ID-card, Mobile-ID, biometric identification, and in a bank office. For minors, the option to register for a Smart-ID account with a bank link will be available for longer time period. This option will be eventually terminated too.
When the option to use a bank link for registration is not available anymore, people should use other, more convenient and secure ways. This will also grant access to all e-services that support Smart-ID and enable the option to give digital signatures that are accepted throughout the European Union and have the same legal validity as handwritten signatures.
To register for a new account, the free Smart-ID app should be first downloaded and installed. After that the account should be created and authenticated. To create a full access Smart-ID account, user must have an Estonian, Latvian or Lithuanian national ID number, and comply with Smart-ID age restrictions.
